Seven Below

Snow machines, plow trucks, and the brave are the only things out and about up north. What a finish to the month of January, true winter is upon us and I can not wait for it to end. It is tough to get anything accomplished in this weather but burn firewood and tie flies, warmer times are on the way as the days slowly get longer.

Ice fishing has been the hobby lately. The river is iced up at moment from 37 down. That shouldn’t last to long but until some good rain or warm weather anything below Gleason’s is a gamble. The access points are in worse shape than the river as the county and feds just haven’t been able to keep up with the current snowfall. You can fish the river but is it worth the risk…for now I think not and will hold out until things get cleaned up a bit.

It is different than the river and it sure isn’t fly fishing but the ice is fishing. Get a buddy heater, shanty up, and find a hole. It is better exercise than you think and keeps one outdoors during the winter blues. Still it is exciting to know Pere Marquette’s time to fish is coming soon.
