The Dog Days

Here we are in the midst of summer and it is a beautiful here in Michigan. The big dry fly hatches are finishing up on the Pere Marquette leaving us the after dark hours to play on the river. Terrestrial fishing will keep things busy when the lights are on, nymphs and wet flies will keep the rod bent for those who like to work on their tan.

Be patient and don’t let your confidence drop. This time of the year can be difficult to fool are slimy friends. With water temps peaking and canoe traffick very heavy at times. Take it with grace and focus on the fact we love to fish and not just catch fish. When the fishing gets tough get out and fish, and become a better angler as the result.

Fish well!!

A Visit to the Forest

The hexagania hatch is over on the PM and we all get to wait for another year for the party to begin. After dark fishing should only start to improve over the next couple months. Also the hopper fishing should also start to trend upward as we get into the heart of the summer months. Please be aware of your water temps and mindful of our Brown fishy friends. Land your fish as quick as possible to reduce stress on our friends while summer heats up.

On a quick side note. Michigan not only has amazing fishing but amazing live music opportunities across the state over the summer. I just thought I would share one of my other passions for a quick second. Electric Forest Festival always has a wonderful amount of culture, food and most important some top notch Jam Grass brought to us by The String Cheese Incident and many more live musical acts.

Get out there and love life!!
